A simple beat with a clash of edgy unique sounds. Dark is what describes my style. Techno and Minimal caters to just that. When selecting the songs, I am looking strictly for a down, darker sound with more robust beats. These songs have a distinctive heavy bass line that flow into a haunting drum beat rhythm. We've been fortunate enough to get receive some amazing mixes lately, but this one really stood out from the crowd. While this podcast series is intended to showcase mixes from Washington DC based DJs whatever their style, our personal tastes lean towards mixes on the more underground end of the spectrum which take you on a journey through the rich variety house music has to offer, while still maintaining a solid dance floor vibe. Over to zacheser for a few words about the mix: " I take pride in being the fat, weird, nerdy guy in the corner. It's been my aesthetic since I was in grade school: while the other kids were stoked about 'Toy Story,' I was pumped about 'Star Wars' or the horror section at Blockbuster; I chose Beth Ditto over Beyoncé because she was a fat kid like me who made music and gave zero fucks about what people thought of her; I wanted concert tickets instead of a car when I graduated college. DJ'ing wasn't something I experimented in until after I saw LCD Soundsystem in 2010. That was my first experience of the power, or rather the catharsis, that dance music could have. It's been a while since the last edition of the Meet The Locals Podcast series, but we're back with a great new mix from a name that will be familiar to any regulars on the DC dance music scene, PHILCO: "My mix for DC House Grooves has a couple different feels to it. First off, I really tried to be current with the mix. Most of the tracks have come out in the past 2 or 3 months -- just recent releases that I've really been feeling. A couple older tracks in there as well. There's some big hitters included like Hot Since 82 and Danny Daze, even a Kevin Saunderson edit, but also some stuff from emerging artists and tracks that I really like that haven't got a lot of coverage. Overall, I picked tracks that I thought would make things interesting and keep people moving throughout the mix.
