  • Episode 90: Ditching Diet Labels, Owning Your Truth + Flowing Through Transitions with Lily Diamond from Kale & Caramel

    30/01/2019 Duración: 01h12min

Sign-up for my FREE masterclass: http://bit.ly/masterclass-biz I love when I meet readers and people who follow The Healthy Maven and they're surprised that I'm pretty much the same human in person as I am online. I suck at lying so even if I wanted to live an alternate persona, there's no way anyone would buy it. Of course, I tend to have the same reaction when I meet people in real life. I'm not going to lie, I've been disappointed a few times, but most of the time it's pretty much as expected. And then sometimes you meet someone you follow and they're not only as cool as their online persona, but actually cooler. This, my friends, is Lily Diamond. I had the privilege of meeting Lily a few months ago during our trip with Earthbound Farms. Meeting Lily was like meeting a way cooler version of myself while simultaneously hoping she doesn't think I'm a huge weirdo (I am for the record). She's just one of those people. I think what I admire most about Lily is how she keeps it real. I've always valued authentici

  • Episode 88: Breast Health + Getting Diagnosed with Breast Cancer + Being Your Best Health Advocate with Paige More

    16/01/2019 Duración: 01h18min

This is a topic that is near and dear to my heart and one that I think as women (and men!) we need to be talking about more. I could not have asked for a better or more knowledgable guest to come on the show and share her wisdom. Paige More (better known as Paige Previvor on the 'gram) never meant to become an advocate for breast health. It wasn't until she was diagnosed in her early 20s with the BRCA 1 gene mutation that she even considered the health of her breasts. From there her life flipped upside down. It started with an Instagram image as she went in for a preventative double mastectomy at age 24. From there she was introduced to a community of women that she never knew existed. Since then she's launched The Breasties and become an advocate for breast education and story-telling around women with the breast cancer gene mutations and breast cancer survivors. She is, without question, a huge inspiration to so many - myself included. Join The Healthy Maven Tribe to ask guest questions and to find out who

Kathryn is someone who I deeply admire for her introspection, self-compassion and for inspiring me to deepen my yoga practice. But in today's episode we're going beyond just yoga and why no one can be defined by a single thing. While Kathryn may have started her career as a yoga instructor she is, as we chat about, so much more than this. This episode really spoke to me as I evolve more in my personal and professional life and move through the rocky transition of change. Kathryn is reminding me that change and growth is a positive thing and not to resist the process. Foll

  • Episode 85: Things I'm Afraid to Tell You About 2018 + Intention Setting for 2019

    19/12/2018 Duración: 48min

Mentioned in this episode: Curt's Dad's article: http://bit.ly/2Lj7FH8  I'm having a hard time believing 2018 is coming to an end. At the same time I also feel a deep sense of relief that it is and am looking forward to welcoming in a new year and a clean slate. Though to be fair, I don't necessarily believe that come Jan 1 everything resets, but just by nature of having some time off around this time of year I have more time for reflection and brain space to consider what changes I might want to implement. It could just as easily happen on July 23rd (or any other day) but Jan 1 works for me...and seemingly the rest of the world! With more reflection time comes a new podcast episode where I'm sharing some things I'm afraid to tell you about 2018. The "things I'm afraid to tell you" series was inspired by Jess Lively (who also has a great podcast!) and I've shared my own version of it in the past. This time it comes to you in podcast form because these days it feels like the easiest and safest way for me to co

These are all questions or thoughts that have come up over the last year. While I'm certainly not here to scare anyone, I do think it's important that we ask these questions and seek helpful answers to make educated decisions. That's why I asked Sophia Ruan Gushée of Non-Toxic Living to join me on the show to answer these questions. As I mentioned, my goal is never to scare anyone, only to inform and empower. Did I throw out my mattress after this episode? Hell no! I'm obsessed with our Four Seasons PillowTop, toxic or not! But when it comes to easier swaps like household cleaning products, body care products and the like, I really do feel it's valuable to have all the information. Sophia is an incredible resource for all of this information and mo

Let's just say this episode is an important one. A lot of us don't talk about the struggles we have around money because we're ashamed and afraid. Many of us suffer in silence. • Episode 79: Removing Limiting Beliefs + Tackling Feelings of Lack + Self-Worth with Taylor Simpson

    07/11/2018 Duración: 01h02min

I've spent the last couple of years making a concerted effort to follow and be surrounded by people who promote positivity, or better yet, exude it. I've found that the more positivity I surround myself with, the better I feel. We weirdly all have this innate instinct to be attracted to things that we do not have and in the process follow and surround ourselves with those people who in the end we just don't feel all that great about. We focus on our lack, rather than our abundance. If you're one of those people, I feel you and I have been there. These days life looks a lot different, both in terms of my surroundings, but also in terms of the abundance I experience in my life, but it wasn't an easy journey to get there. In fact, the journey really was about flicking a switch in my brain - something that's easier said than done- to focus on the positive, rather than the negative. The repercussions of this are 10 fold. That's the theme of today's episode with my friend Taylor Simpson. How to flick that switch an

  • Episode 78: Voting for the Environment + Feeding the World, Organically with Gary Hirshberg

    31/10/2018 Duración: 36min

Mentioned in the episode: https://votesaveamerica.com/ballot Information on how your representatives have voted on the environment from the EWG (Environmental Working Group) President's Cancer Panel - evidence that pesticides are leading to increased cancer diagnoses (from 2010) I've talked about it many times before, but my trip to Sonoma earlier this year with Stonyfield Organic was truly life-changing. While I had a sense of the importance of organic food and the organic movement, I wasn't fully aware of the impact it actually had. To be honest, I hadn't interacted with the farmers, learned about how their practices differ and really the art that is organic food until this trip. Once Pandora's Box had been opened, it was hard to go back. One of the things that made this trip so phenomenal was getting to share it with Stonyfield's co-founder Gary Hirshberg. When it comes to yogurt and organics, he might be the most knowledgable person in the room. He's also incredibly inspiration so getting to hear his st

  • Episode 77: Traditional Chinese Medicine + The Benefits of Acupuncture, Cupping and Acupressure with Karinn Gallagher

    24/10/2018 Duración: 58min

Perhaps one of the most requested episodes of the podcast has been one focused on Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture in particular. While I have wanted to jump into this topic for a while now, the timing just hasn't been right. I knew I wanted to speak to someone I really trusted and knew would be able to answer my questions in an easy to understand manner and until I got connected to Karinn Gallagher, that wasn't a possibility. Luckily, a few months ago the stars aligned I finally met Karinn in person. I knew immediately we needed her wealth of knowledge on the show. For anyone who has been curious about TCM, acupuncture, cupping, Chinese herbs and how they can benefit you, this episode is for you! It's also a great conversation on the wellness community in San Francisco and how important those human connections truly are. Here are a few things we talked about in today's episode: What led Karinn to study TCM What is Traditional Chinese Medicine and which practices are used What is "Qi" and ways yo

  • Episode 76: Life After an Eating Disorder + How to Embrace Your New Body As It Changes with Rini Frey

    17/10/2018 Duración: 55min

If you aren't following Rini on Instagram, I urge you to do it RIGHT NOW. Her growth this year has been explosive, and for good reason. After battling an eating disorder for many years, she has single-handedly taken on the BS messaging we are fed by social media and digital marketing about what our bodies should look like. She is, quite simply, an inspiration. For anyone who has or continues to struggle with body image, this episode is for you. For anyone who has or continues to compare their bodies to other people's, this episode is for you. For anyone who wants to end the binge-restrict cycle and learn to embrace who they are with compassion and love, this episode is for you. Here are a few things we talked about in today's episode: Rini's history with an eating disorder and how it affected her body image How the fitness industry affected her body image Binge eating disorder and what that looked like for her At what point she knew "enough was enough" How she's coped with her body changing as she recovers S

While we definitely jump into these topics, the episode kept coming back to me and some struggles that I've been having. Without me knowing, Kelsey was helping me tap into my energy and some things I need to work on. I'm forever grateful to her for tuning into this and most importantly, reminding me to tune into myself. Here are a few things we talked about in today's episode: Kelsey's upbringing and what led her to Reiki Back pain and realizing it's more than just a physical issue The importance of talking about mental health struggles The energy of our words and how to reframe them What is reiki and why you don't "do" reiki but "live" reiki EFT and opening up your chakras for healing Why you aren't what you do but who you are Magik Vibes Box and why she created it What advice she would give to her 20 year old self Please don't forget to rate + review in iTunes if you love the podcast. • Episode 74: What Does "Mindfulness" Really Mean + When It's Time to Shift Careers with Nkechi Njaka

    03/10/2018 Duración: 01h12min

Mindfulness - what do you know about it? I feel like these days there so much talk about living more mindfully and embracing mindfulness but what does that actually mean? Today I'm chatting with neuroscientist and mindfulness expert, Nkechi Njaka all about this. I met Nkechi after attending one of her classes and knew immediately that I wanted her on the show. Not only was it one of the most blissful 30 minutes of my week, but I just had this feeling that she was a wealth of knowledge. Glad I went with my gut, because I was right. You can find Nkechi teaching at a couple studios around San Francisco, including The Pad and The Assembly, but you can also try out some of her mindfulness meditations here. • Episode 73: Thyroid Health, Living in a Blue Zone + How To Grow Your Yoga Business

    26/09/2018 Duración: 01h22min

To be honest, I went into today's episode with Fern Olivia with somewhat of an expectation. I knew we'd talk about Thyroid Yoga and how to support our thyroid health, but what I got in return was so much more. As you guys know, I completed Yoga Teacher Training last spring and have begun my journey of teaching yoga. It has been a STEEP learning curve (if you think yoga teaching is easy - well I urge you to give it a try!) and one that left me with a lot of knowledge but an equal amount of questions. Fern must have picked up on this because the conversation that ensued both inspired and equipped me to be a better yoga teacher. I left our convo feeling amped up and eager to see this next chapter through. Of course, if you're not on a journey to teaching yoga, this episode is still relevant for you! We chat about Fern's decision to move to a blue zone and pursue her dreams as well as how to support your thyroid holistically among many other things. Here are a few things we discuss in today's episode: How Fern g

Mentioned in this episode: Episode 27 with Bess Matassa from Mojave Rising Mission Loft in San Francisco  Any great season requires a great kick-off episode and I could not be more excited to share today's LIVE podcast recording with dosist. A few weeks ago in SF, a group of 25 of us gathered in the most beautiful home (hi Mission Loft!) for an evening of community, conversation and cannabis. Yes, you read that correctly: cannabis. This isn't a new topic to the show, but given that more and more states and countries are legalizing the plant, I felt it was due time to dive deeper into the topic and answer all of your questions - and mine! On today's episode, we welcome Claire Anderson, the field marketing manager for dosist to the show to answer all of your questions about cannabis, how it's actually good for you and tips for getting started if you've never used cannabis before. Here are some other things we chatted about: Claire's background and all about dosist What is the cannabis plant and how is it good
