Regular Joes Podcast

This week, the Regular Joes along with our good friend and semi-regular co-host Brian Mix travel to Bridgeport Connecticut to visit Poster Conservation. Owner Lee Milazzo and his team of artisans conserve, restore and repair posters of all sizes and types so they look as good as they day they were printed, and will last the test of time! They can even work their magic on some posters that most people would think were beyond repair. Lee gives us a full tour of the shop and a demo of each process they use to conserve and restore these posters…including some processes that seem counter intuitive or even destructive to "old paper"; but they have mastered their techniques over the past 33 years to being these pieces of art back to life. Towards the end of the episode, Lee reveals a poster that Brian had restored by the team, and we get to see his reaction to their amazing work in real time. In the realm of film props there are collectors, and then there was the late Bob Burns. Over the course of his lifetime, through friends, coworkers, and industry connections, Bob assembled an unparalleled cache of screen used sci-fi and horror film items. Perhaps the only thing more inspiring than the treasure trove he amassed was the kindness and generosity he and his wife Kathy showed towards folks with common interests. This week the Regular Joes recognize the life and legacy of Bob Burns through the memories of two of his many friends; Tom Spina of Regal Robot and Tom Spina Designs, and author John Michlig, who literally wrote the book on Bob. This week, The Regular Joe's take a last look at the first season of the newest Star Trek spinoff series, Starfleet Academy. Dismissed by many as part of NU Trek "(aka not my Star Trek) Academy presents a starting point for new viewers as well as new cadets. Is it perfect? No, it is not. But there's enough good there to be hopeful for the future. And isn't that what Star Trek is supposed to be about? Firefly, another canceled before it peaked sci-fi series, hopes to return in animated form. Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan knows how to tell a compelling story. This time he takes the alien body snatcher trope and goes places you would never expect. Just when you thought another trip to Westeros would be more of the same HBO serves up a Knight of Seven Kingdoms. Much more about impalement, then backstabbing, Knight gives us a character piece that does not require a chart or spreadsheet to follow. While the first two shows are unexpected surprises Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters back for a second season on Apple is not. With one episode to date it's everything we loved … plus Kong. This week Brian Mix joins Barry, Dave, and Tod to formally announce the Kickstarter effort to provide a home for the Shuttlecraft Galileo at the Official Star Trek Set Tour in Ticonderoga, New York. The Galileo has endured a long, and often perilous, journey in the decades since The Original Series ended its three year run. There is no one better equipped to tell that story than Adam Schneider, who purchased the largest surviving original Star Trek series prop in 2012 and painstakingly restored it to its former glory. Adam's personal fleet of Star Trek production models includes some of the most iconic starships from the series … oh, and he has the Genesis Device. It's an interview Trek fans won't want to miss. Predator Badlands is the eighth, or ninth film if you count the animated feature, in the long running franchise. Nearly three decades after Arnold Schwarzenegger said, "Get to the chopah!" these ugly dudes just keep coming back for more. This week, Dave, who sees more merit in the Predator films than most, talked Tod, who has skipped the entire franchise since 1997, into seeing Predator Badlands. The results are somewhat surprising.
