Hello once again. This is Paul Billington with another edition of The Bible in the News. And it was the apostle John, in the Bible, that gave believers this news in the First Century: "Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time" (1 John 2:18).

The latter day “king of the South” who “pushes” at the king of the North in Daniel 11 is identified with Britain, America and the Tarshish powers of Ezekiel 38 who are allied with Sheba and Dedan. What will be the "push" that draws the king of the North into the latter day conflict? Are we seeing preparations for this push today?

"After Deadly Raid, Israel Stands Alone", was the front page headline in Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper this week. This is David Billington with you for Bible in the News. The raid was was a botched effort to stop a flotilla of ships attempting to break the sea blockade on Hamas run Gaza. Israel does not allow it's territorial waters be used for ships destined for Gaza, in order to stop arms smuggling from countries like Iran. Two large boats loaded with arms have been intercepted over the last few years. If the Hamas run terror organization were to get their hands on the type of arms intercepted, it would be a disaster for Israel, as it's cities would be bombarded with more advanced and deadly rockets than the ones currently used, which are manufactured in the Gaza machine shops. Due to these risks Israel requires all aid to go through via land so that it can be properly checked.

The scriptures prophecy a time when all the world will turn against God's people. The incessant attacks on Israel by the media, the UN and now a humanist armada are signs that we are fast approaching the great conflict that looms over the word and will herald the beginning of the Kingdom of God.

We are surrounded by a world of breathtaking beauty. During sunrise and sunset, the sky above us like a giant canvas is painted with the most exquisite artistry. The plantlife and creatures that inhabit the earth are wonderfuly colour coordinated; sceintists have great difficulty explaining the purpose of their beauty, whose only function is to grace the planet with elegance. Exceeding the most captivating artwork created by man, the earth stops us with its grandeur, from its majestic mountain peaks and cascading waterfalls to the secret deeps of its oceans. We rush to document its beauty with our cameras, far more than we frequent any museum or gallery. The earth always has more for us to see, new secrets for us to unlock and it is faithfully new with every sunrise.

The leaders of Russia and Turkey are claiming “common vision on regional and international issues”. So when will the Turks be handing over Constantinople (Istanbul)?

Many readers and listeners will be aware that Britain features in Bible prophecy, that she was the 'midwife' so to speak, of the nation of Israel (through the 'Balfour Declaration') and of those Arab nations which came into being following the collapse of the Ottoman (Turkish) empire. Consequently her foreign policy in respect to the Middle East has been somewhat ambiguous ever since: often supportive of Israel (as in the 1956 Suez Crisis) but also often pro-Arab in many ways. Some of her political leaders have been sympathetic towards Israel and the Jews - whereas others have been downright hostile. So where do the results of the recent British election place Britain now? How do we understand the situation in the light of Bible prophecy?

European Union member state Greece is on the verge of going broke, so the European Union and the International Monetary Fund are putting together a bailout which is being stalled by Germany. Meanwhile the crisis is spreading and the cost of saving Greece from defaulting on its loans is ballooning. In fact, quoting from this weeks Economist, page 63: "Greece needs so much money that the only thing standing between the country and default is open-ended funding from the IMF and the rest of the euro area." The crisis is now potentially spreading to other EU countries; the poor state of finances in Portugal, Ireland, Italy and Spain are causing anxiety.

Russia's bullying tactics have paid off as it signed deal with the new Ukrainian president allowing it to keeps its ships deployed until 2043. This move makes way for the fulfillment of Daniel 11:40.

It is amazing how one relatively small volcano in Iceland can cause so much havoc across much of Europe and the world! A massive cloud of ash, potentially fatal to modern aircraft is moving over the northern half of the European continent, causing airspace from the United Kingdom all the way to Poland to close. Today about two thirds of Europe's 28,000 daily flights were canceled. If the disturbance continues for a third day approximately 6 million passengers will be affected. Struggling airlines are losing about 200 million a day, there are even suggestions this could affect the fragile global economic recovery. The Economist in an article entitled "Ash-flow problems" comments on this phenomena: Terminals empty of passengers and grounded aircraft attested to the power of nature to disrupt the travel plans of millions as many of Europe’s busiest airports were forced to close for business on Thursday April 15th."

In this edition of the Bible in the News, we must comment on the unsavoury news stories that have appeared concerning the Roman Catholic Church and the dreadful abuse of children over many, many years. I say that we "must" comment on the matter for it is one that underlines much of what the Bible teaches us - about human nature, and about this particular church.

While Jews all over the world will join in the passover celebration and read out the Haggadah which includes the prayer for the rebuilding of Jerusalem, the Whitehouse is working to halt construction. God will prevail over man.

The news in the US has been dominated in the last few weeks, if not over the last few years by the issue of healthcare. With a rallying cry of “health care for all”, the Obama administration celebrated this week, having pushed through and signed into law, sweeping changes to healthcare legislation. However, the plain truth of the matter is that man will never resolve the underlying problems of sin, disease and death. The true solution, provided by the Almighty Himself, has been outlined in His holy oracles.

Welcome to The Bible in the News, this is David Billington and I'm happy you have been able to join us, as we consider world events in the light of Bible prophecy. The prophecy of Gog's invasion of Israel in Ezekiel chapter 38, predicts a future conflagration upon the mountains of Israel. A coalition of nations led by "Gog of the land of Magog" from the uttermost parts of the north, moves down upon God's people the Jews, who have been gathered out of the nations. At that moment the God of Israel intervenes and destroys the gathered confederacy upon the mountains of Israel.

This week has been Israel Apartheid Week (IAW) which has infected many universities and colleges around the world – especially in Canada. The putrid propaganda put out by the various organization supporting the IAW is at variance with the Gospel and the will of God.
