Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News - This is Paul Billington in Jerusalem, Israel. Many will know the oft quoted prophecy of Joel 3:1, 2: “For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.”

Welcome to this edition of The Bible in the News with Paul Billington at the Jerusalem Conference in Israel. We have spent the past three days at this Conference listening to journalists, political leaders, academics, military experts, economists and others who are involved in trying to direct Israel's path forward in the Middle East and in the world.

Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News, brought to you this week by Paul Billington in Jerusalem. There has been some excitement here this week as workmen discovered a Byzantine period street under the present-day Jaffa Gate. Apparently it confirms the accuracy of a 1500 year-old map of the city. The discovery has no connection with the Bible of course, and it is therefore quite acceptable to the world. Other discoveries which do connect with the Bible may be welcomed or not so enthusiastically welcomed, depending upon what it is.

A quarter of a million children malnourished… farms full of mines… civilians killed by shelling. Those are just some of the headlines this week focusing on just one country in this world, Somalia. The World in 2010 identified Somalia with the dubious honour as the worst country in the world and it has become a frightening example of some of the horrors that people in this world live through every day of their lives. On the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp, the United Nations celebrates “Holocaust Memorial Day” while continuing to give Holocaust deniers and anti-Zionist figures a platform on the world stage. As the world is shocked by the hopeless situation in Haiti - many are organizing relief efforts. The scripture speaks of much greater calamity in the near future - are we giving hope to those around us to help them become "wise unto salvation?"

Before the Israelites entered the land of promise led by Joshua, the God of Israel informed them through his prophet Moses that there would be a place which the LORD would choose to cause his name to dwell there (Deuteronomy 12:11), it would be there that they would offer their burnt offerings. It was not until the time of king David that this place was revealed and the temple was built on Mount Moriah, in the reign of Solomon David's son. This was to be the house of prayer for all nations, yet when Jesus came he called it a den of thieves and so it was destroyed, as Jesus prophesied, "your house is left to you desolate." God showing that he would not allow the behaviour being practised by his people to be associated with his name. This was a holy place chosen by God, yet it had been defiled by the occupants and has been down-trodden ever since.

As the year has come to a close the events are brining us closer to the Lord's return. While the world is drunk with revelry we must remain sober and watching. As pirates prowl the seas, the hand of God is at work positioning the nations to take up their roles described in Bible Prophecy.

This is Paul Billington with another edition of the Bible in the News - and somehow this annual "mass," known to the world as CHRIST-MAS, always gets into the news headlines. Along with news about shopping and the amount of cash-turnover, the weather and holiday traffic, the usual pro-Palestinian tid-bit from Bethlehem - the Queen's message and the pope's, it really is a major publicity stunt for those churches that claim the name "Christian".

As the world leaders struggle to agree on solutions at the climate change conference in Copenhagen, the Bible informs us about an inconvenient truth: “It is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” (Jer. 10:23).

This last week Israeli Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman created a storm, when he stated that the modern state of Israel should be based on Torah law! He does not mean the law of Moses, but Jewish religious law, which is the Rabbis interpretation of the Law of Moses.

As the Lisbon Treaty comes into effect, creating the political entity of United Europe looked for by Bible students for hundreds of years, one of the first things it will do is condemn Israel. Leaked documents reveal what is at the heart of Europe - "evil thoughts" that will eventually bring them into the land and see them destroyed on the mountains of Israel.

And among the many news items deserving our attention this week, comes a horror story from Ireland - a horror story that the Catholic Church has kept locked up in secret archives for many decades, and one which demonstrates the of a system predicted in by the apostle Paul in his letter to the Thessalonians of the first century.

The first President of the European Council was named last night, bringing a close to months of speculation, jostling, and negotiations.

This week marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The fall came as a result of Pope John Paul's efforts to use America to help destroy communisim. In the wake of the Warsaw Pact, Europe was united and is becoming an Empire once again - and is now heading toward the climax when it will "make war with the Lamb".

Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News, this is John Billington with you this week. Well as we record this week it is a fairly calm night with nothing especially unusual across the country here in Canada. This however is not the case for those in the British Isles! Tonight is Guy Fawkes night and it is to the origins of this night and the irony of groups of Anglicans joining the Roman Catholic church this past week that we will look into for this week edition of the Bible in the News!

Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News. This is Paul Billington with you again this week scanning News headlines that connect us to the Bible and its prophecies. As usual there is the on-going game with Iran and its nuclear intentions, and the regular crop of anti-Israel propaganda disguised as news. Some political figures joined the cause of Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - as for example the Director of Radio Globo of Honduras who said last week (I quote),

Hello! This is Paul Billington bringing you another edition of the Bible in the News as archaeologists in Israel announce plans for major excavations at the famous Western Wall - digging down to the very foundations of the 'Kotel' (or Kosel, meaning "Wall") where Jews offer their prayers today.

Iran threatens to blast Israel. Barak Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize. Riots erupt over Jews visiting the Temple Mount, 12 policeman are hurt as the violence spreads. A 50-year old Israeli woman sustains a major head injury from Arab rock throwers in the West Bank. Obama must soon decide whether to send another 40,000 soldiers to fight in Afghanistan.

During his passionate speech to the nations of the world, Netanyahu appealed to the UN to remember it's charter and not forget the evils of the past Pointing out the bias against the Israeli people, he asked the world to open its eyes to what is really going on in the Middle East. In the wake of this, the Bible clearly defines the terms of judgement God will use in the latter day.
