Bible In The News

Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News. This is Paul Billington bringing you this week's edition of our weekly programme. Certainly 2011 has focussed attention on the King James Authorized version of the Bible, with newspapers and electronic media reminding us of the 400th anniversary of this amazing Book, without doubt the most influential Book ever printed in the English language. According to one newspaper report, there have been over six billion copies of it sold!

The Bible speaks clearly of the people of Israel coming back to the land and to the "Mountains of Israel". This week we are going to Israel and Itamar, one of the towns surrounding the Biblical Shechem in the area of Samaria. We have been able to interview Yonatan Boofty, of Arutz Sheva about the Villages that are springing up in the Biblical Judea and Samarai.

The Pope believes the Kingdom of God is the Church - and as the spirit of Christmas spreads - so does the kingdom of God. The Bible teaches the Kingdom of God is the nation of Israel - and soon Christ will return to establish real peace on earth.

God is a revealer of secrets and has drawn back the curtain on some of the activities in the Middle East showing an arms buildup with weapons supplied by Israel’s enemies, (identified in Ezekiel 38). Will this arms buildup result in a war that will change the scenario in the Middle East, ultimately leading the "peace and safety" described in Ezekiel 38?

Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News, this is John Billington joining you this week. Well it's another week with Israel at the center of the news headlines with the breakdown of the peace talks. It never ceases to be amazing how a nation of only about 7 million people, which is probably not a whole lot more than the greater Toronto area (For those outside of Canada, Toronto is Canada's largest city!) can continually draw news headlines across the world on a daily basis. Having said that when you come to scripture it is to be expected, the Lord through the prophet Zachariah tells us that "Jerusalem will be a burdensome stone for all people." I think Obama probably curses the land every day as he continually makes a fool of himself trying to be the one who brings peace to the region, although so has every other US president in my lifetime. When one considers the European debt crisis; including the EU Greek bailout, the recent bailout of Ireland, the almost inevitable bail out of Portugal, and with Spain another likely potential for a debt crisis, one may consider the European project in danger. Indeed many are openly stating that the Euro could be finished. The Guardian Newspaper in the UK reported that: "The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has warned for the first time that her country could abandon the euro if she fails in her contested campaign to establish a new regime for the single currency..." However Simon Derrick, chief currency strategist at Bank of New York Mellon was quoted by the Economist as saying: "Not only do we find it difficult to imagine how a nation could disentangle itself from the single currency... but we also take seriously the fact that the Maastricht Treaty envisioned entry into the euro as being irrevocable" So while it seems unlikely that the Euro or European project will end, it does seem that the European Union

Iran’s president has been threatening to “wipe Israel off the map” for several years now. The world has braced itself for an impending military strike against Iran by Israel. Iran’s push to gain nuclear weapons has added to the deep concern many have felt of an impending nuclear attack on Israel. The Bible clearly states that Zion is the perpetual rest desired by God forever, it cannot be that Iran will destroy it and the people God has chosen.

This is Paul Billington bringing you another edition of the Bible in the News. In a few weeks time we will enter the year 2011, and that will mean that 400 years will have passed since the publication of the King James Authorized version. That version was the result of a fierce controversy - one which set Church authority against the authority of the Bible. The Church and the Bible were not on the same page, so to speak.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper made a great speech on November 9th, speaking out against anti-semitism. He said how "Israel appeared as a light, in a world emerging from deep darkness." Some other highlights of the speech were:

Will Germany now take center state? The question posed by the Economist magazine has extremely interesting ties to what the Bible prophecies of Europes Future. Germany is at the heart of the Beast, and the Vatican is riding it.

How will they react when God enforces His settlement plans for Israel? Welcome to the October 15th, 2010 edition of Bible in the News. This is Glenn Abel with you. The headlines are not new, and are typical of the past few years: “Israel’s plan for 238 settler homes draws Palestinian ire”... “PLO: No talks while settlements continue” ... “Above the Law: Israeli Settlements & the End of the Two-State Solution” ... “Russia calls for Israel to cancel settlements construction in East Jerusalem” ... “Israel Draws Ire with New Settlements.”

This last week the Economist magazine's cover depicted a racing tiger with the headline: "How India's growth will outpace China's". The article says: "Despite the headlines, India is doing rather well. Its economy is expected to expand by 8.5% this year. It has a long way to go before it is as rich as China—the Chinese economy is four times bigger—but its growth rate could overtake China’s by 2013, if not before. Some economists think India will grow faster than any other large country over the next 25 years. Rapid growth in a country of 1.2 billion people is exciting, to put it mildly."

And the news this week that a skeleton found near Stonehenge is that of a Mediterranean boy, is just one more piece of evidence which links Britain to Mediterranean traders in Bible times.

Democracy has been proven to be a flawed concept bringing to power parties such as the Nazis who have systematically annihilated peoples across Europe. Today we see the revival of the racist spirit as a precursor of what is to come.

This week has produced several interesting headlines and news items, so far as Bible prophecy is concerned. In particular we see a north south split developing in the Arab world. Welcome to The Bible in the News, this is David Billington with you.

Welcome back to Bible in the News after the summer, this is David Billington with you. We now hope to resume our weekly schedule, God willing. Barack Obama has finally been successful in forcing the Israelis and the Palestinians to take part in peace negotiations. Both sides will now be very concerned over who will be blamed for the failure of the talks. Last time it was very difficult not to blame the Palestinians, led by Yasser Arafat at the time; Mr. Arafat turned down Ehud Barak's offer for an Arab state in most of the West Bank and Gaza strip. From the Palestinian Arab perspective probably the largest mistake they ever made. Now the Gaza Strip has been given to them by Israel unilaterally, however it is ruled over by the terror organization Hamas. The more secular Fatah (originally Yasser Arafat's terror organization) has the upper hand in the West Bank areas and are the ones negotiating with Israel, however they have little influence in the Gaza strip. Moving into position at the center of European Security, selling arms to Syria, making cruise missile deals with Iran, opening bases in Armenia, placing missiles in Abkhazia, reviving its navy, provoking Canada...
