Obama's recent policy speech on the Israeli Palestinian Arab conflict and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's subsequent comments, after their private meeting in the Whitehouse, have highlighted a growing rift between the two administrations. Welcome to the Bible in the News, this is David Billington with you. Obama has been moving closer to the European viewpoint, while Netanyahu appears to be more or less standing his ground. Obama's call for Israel to withdrawal to the 67 borders are those borders which the well known Israel diplomat, Abba Eban called the "Auschwitz lines", because they left Israel in such a strategically vulnerable position.. Israel is in a tough position. They are surrounded by counties that have been traditionally hostile; their peace treaties with Egypt and possibly Jordan, could be jeopardized by the current turmoil in the Arab world. The Economist magazine, which would have a similar worldview as Obama and his Democratic party, summarized Obama's speech as follows:

Hello, this is Paul Billington with you again this week, looking at some background facts which reflect upon a Royal Wedding such as the one seen by millions this past weekend. Behind all the pomp and glory that the people see there are constitutional arrangements in place which go back centuries, and although people today pay little attention to them - and are even embarrassed by some of the details - they are virtually impossible to ignore. Attempts to alter these arrangements, as well as the failure to do so, have been in the news this week. The constitutional changes have been blocked by the Church of England, and by the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. At the root of these arrangements there is the question of papal authority versus the authority of Scripture. During the coming week the news media will give considerable coverage to the Royal wedding that is planed for Friday, April 29th in Westminster Abbey, London. Just over a week ago we visited the scene in London where the event is to take place, if all goes well. So this is Paul Billington bringing you this week's edition of the Bible in the News, and offering some comments on the Royal event from a Bible point of view. As multitudes watch the spectacular proceedings in Westminster Abbey, few will be thinking about the fact that it will be taking place in what is essentially a 'house of the dead.' Some 3,000 people are buried in the Abbey, including many Kings, Queens, former Prime Ministers and notables. Here lies Elizabeth I, James I, Mary Queen of Scots, Charles II as well as others like composer Handel (known for his ' Messiah') and poet Chaucer, novelist Charles Dickens and so on. It really is a House of the Dead!

We may often wonder how a modern nation like Israel can become the righteous nation that keepeth the truth--a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. How can a nation that is ignorant of the truth as it is in Jesus and for the most part the things concerning the restoration of the kingdom to Israel, under the son of David, understand these ideas?

Relics, saint worship and superstitious practices have not been relegated to the Dark Ages. These practices are going on today with the full support of the Church and fulfilling prophecy in the process.

Earthquake, Tsunami, nuclear pollution, the Arab world being convulsed as the people rise up against their rulers; rockets fired into Israel, terrorist attacks, NATO air-strikes in Libya... The whole world, both physical and political is on the move.

Well it is that time of the year again, it is the season for all the Israel haters like Jimmy Carter to come out and spread lies and propaganda. It used to be known as Israel Apartheid week, now you can welcome Israel Apartheid month due to the past success of the campaign.

This is the Bible in the News with David Billington. Ezekiel chapter 38 is a prophecy pointing to a future invasion of Israel - the time of Israel's deliverance and ultimate elevation. In the prophecy of Ezekiel 38 there are two clearly defined groups of nations. Invading from the far north, is Gog of the land of Magog, Prince of Rosh, Meshech and Tubal. (Revised Version) Confederate with Rosh are also Persia, Ethiopia, Libya, Gomer and all his bands and the house of Togarmah. All the nations listed aside from Persia, Ethiopia and Libya are sons of Japheth. According to Josephus it was the sons of Japheth that populated Europe and Russia. A critical examination of these names, produces much evidence that these nations listed, comprise most of mainland Europe and Russia today.

This is Paul Billington bringing you another edition of the Bible in the News - but with this difference: going back to the time of King James the 1st and the publication of the 1611 version, that world looked very different to the one we see today. If we look at a historical map of that time we see Europe and the Middle East dominated by two powers - in Central Europe there was the Germanic Holy Roman Empire, and in South East Europe there was the Turkish Ottoman Empire which ruled over the Middle East and what is now known as the Arab world.

Hello again. This is Paul Billington with you this week discussing the news and the way in which it can be understood in the light of inspired prophecy. As the Middle East is being rocked by the uprising of Arab peoples in many countries, several attempts have been made by Bible believers to fit events in to a Scriptural framework - but few seem to be able to make much sense out of it all. Guesswork is no substitute for solid exposition, and casting around for some verse or other without regard to its context or proper place in the program of prophecy is bound to lead to wild - and sometimes - fantastic speculations.

The 400th Anniversary of the king James Authorized version of the Bible has focussed considerable attention on that Book, with several events planned to take place throughout this year. Certainly, the Bible is in the News! Among those events several exhibitions are to be held in various parts of the world. Exhibitions are to be held throughout the United Kingdom, in Australia and in North America.

The events we are seeing today parallel what the prophets speak of in the very near future. This is the type of situation that is to develope around the invasion by the King of the North. The scriptures talk of both Egypt's smiting and healing when Christ returns - and their eventual submission to him in the Kingdom Age.

Riots and civil unrest are sweeping across the Arab world. This is David Billington with you, for Bible in the News on January 28. First the government in Tunisia fell, swept away by mass protest. In Egypt there are indications that the government is on the way out and maybe even the long term leader Hosni Mubarak. There have also been protests in Algeria, Sudan, Jordan and Yemen. Lebanon is also in turmoil where the Islamist Hezbollah, are gaining more and more control. Will 2011 be remembered as a year of Arab revolutions? Events are progressing rapidly and it will be difficult to see exactly where things are headed for some time. The pendulum could swing towards extremist Muslim governments before swinging back. One thing seems certain, a wind of change is blowing across the Middle East.
