Bible In The News

This weeks Bible in the News is a special edition, with the first class from the Mississauga, Ontario prophecy day 2011. The class is entitled "Arab Spring or Arab Winter" and the presenter is Jonathan Bowen.

The descovery this week of a plot to assassinate the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the united states has revealed the divisions that exist in the "Arab" or Islamic world which coincide with divisions the Bible predicts for the latter days.

Reuters headline on the Yahoo news website this week was truly remarkable. It read: "Russia's Putin says wants to build Eurasian Union.'" This is Paul Billington commenting on the Bible in the News - and this headline introduces a news story that many will recognize as a long-expected development in the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. For over 150 years prophetic watchmen have looked for the day when Russia would rise to dominate and control all Eurasia. That is now Vladimir Putin's stated goal.

This week's Economist cover depicts a black hole with the wording, "Until politicians actually do something about the world economy... be afraid." The cover article begins: "Unless politicians act more boldly, the world economy will keep heading towards a black hole. In dark days, people naturally seek glimmers of hope. But those hopes are likely to fade, for three reasons..." According to the article one of the big problems are the leaders of the Eurozone, it says: "Most of the blame for this should be heaped on the leaders of the euro zone, still the biggest immediate danger." The leadership is "lacking conviction and courage." The article concludes, ""At a time of enormous problems, the politicians seem Lilliputian. That’s the real reason to be afraid."

The Bible is clear. Europe will become a dictatorship by all the nations giving their power and strength to the beast, and Britain will get out in order to play the role the finger of God has identified for it… it’s just a question of how, and when.

The UK Telegraph announces that, "Palestinians defy Barack Obama and push ahead for their own state"; the Associated Press, "Palestinian leader will ask for full UN membership"; and the Globe and Mail, "Abbas to ask for full UN membership, but cautions Palestinians against outsized hopes."

For hundreds of years Bible students have anticipated the drying up of the Ottoman Empire to make way for the Jews to return to the land. They have also anticipated a hostile relationship between Israel and the entire northern confederacy, including the EU and Russia.

Hello again. This is Paul Billington bringing you this week's edition of the Bible in the News. And this week we focus upon events in Europe. The Mail on Line (that is, the UK's Daily Mail news site) carried a stunning headline that read "Rise of the Fourth Reich, How Germany is using the Financial Crisis to Conquer Europe."

On August 24 the Associated Press ran the headline, "Israeli Air Strike Kills Gaza Militant", followed by the report that: "Israeli air strikes killed a local commander of the Islamic Jihad militant group in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday and wounded two militants who launched rockets at Israel, despite a two-day-old truce, Israeli and Palestinian officials said."

Syria is in turmoil, Libyan rebels continue to press toward the capital as Qaddafi clings to power, the Arabs prepare to take the issue of the Palestinian state to the UN, Iran makes a deal with Russia in regards to its nuclear program and terror attacks and rockets strike Israel! A week of riots and looting in England is but the symptom of something much more ominous and threatening. Like a volcano preparing to erupt, Britain's immoral society is a Sodom and Gomorrah waiting to happen!

When we survey world events this week, we are struck with the feeling that everything is moving. In the financial world nothing is certain as investors scramble to find a safe haven. The political world is also being shaken, particularly in Syria and Europe, with ongoing turmoil in Libya and Mubarak going on trial in Egypt. Then there is the devastating famine in East Africa, which is being made worse by ruling militants in those areas. This is David Billington, for Bible in the News. Hello! This is Paul Billington bringing you another edition of the Bible in the News as archaeologists in Israel announce plans for major excavations at the famous Western Wall - digging down to the very foundations of the 'Kotel' (or Kosel, meaning "Wall") where Jews offer their prayers today.

This is Paul Billington who is once again trying to impress all of you out there with the significance of what is happening upon the mountains of Israel today, and more specifically among the people who dwell there in the so-called Jewish "settlements."

This is Dave Billington with you for this weeks Bible in the News. Hebrew was once a language considered holy and not for every day use, but today it is the living national language of the modern state of Israel. Jews returning home from the four corners of the earth speaking diverse languages, are able to learn the language of the bible, the language of their nation, a language that binds them together.

Quoting Albert Einstein: A people, a nation, is like a tree which is born with its own shadow. The higher the tree the longer its shadow. If you like you may call it not a shadow but fate. The shadow of the Jewish people is prophecy--vision of the end of the days. The shadow of the Romans was fame, domination of foreign lands. The shadow of the Russians is anti-Semitism.

The scriptures indicate a course for Britain separate to the rest of Europe. Top British policy makers are moving away from Europe as they realize how much sovereignty Britain has lost.

Welcome to Bible in the News, this is David Billington with you. Greece is again descending into chaos; having a weak tottering government, the street of Athens erupting into violence with protestors revolting over the austerity measures and the banking system on the verge of collapse. Other European banks have a large exposure to Greek debt and there is again a dangerous risk of contagion. If Greece defaults on it loans, the effects could cause catastrophe for other weak Eurozone economies. These events would spread ripples throughout the financial system worldwide.

While fires of discontent burn throughout the Middle East and draw the attention of the world’s media, Russia is building up its military might on the profits of its huge oil and gas empire which is constantly expanding. The preparations for the great invasion of Ezekiel 38 are well under way.

This Friday was the fourth time, since becoming pope of the Roman Catholic Church in 2005, that the leader of the PLO, Mahmoud Abbas has met Benedict. In May 2009 Benedict visited Israel, where he gave a large public relations boost for the Arab Palestinian cause and also called for the creation of a Palestinian state. The last pope, John Paul II, reached out to Arafat the leader of the PLO and supported him even when was still considered a terrorist in the 1980's. Arafat became a frequent visitor to the Vatican. The pope and Abbas meeting yesterday did not receive much media coverage and little was reported about it. The main point of the meeting was made quite clear however, by means of a statement issued after the meeting. The central theme was: "...the attainment of the Palestinian people’s legitimate aspirations for an independent State."
