As the founder of her own SF based boutique agency Krystal Lauk Studios she specializes in tech-orientated illustration and visual design, and has worked with a multitude of tech companies including Facebook, Uber, Google, Intercom, and The New York Times. We recently had the opportunity to speak with Ori Brafman author of The Starfish and the Spider and lecturer at UC Berkeley's business school.  The book has been a big influence on the new wave of blockchain businesses inspired by the unique differentiators a decentralized organizational structure can offer. The name of the Starfish Mission, where we recorded our conversation is even inspired by his book, which is a collaborative workspace for SF based companies in the blockchain space. When Ori wrote The Starfish and The Spider in 2006, he wrote it as a metaphor for business decentralization, meaning an organization without a top-down structure. If you liken a traditional corporate structure to a spider, if the head is chopped off - the organization like a spider will die. A starfish, however (or decentralized organization) does not die if one of its arms is chopped off, as it has no head and can regenerate, its arm will simply grow back.

On the latest episode of Popping the Bubbl, we had Jeremy Streich, the founder of Podsource on and got all meta talking about podcasting, while on a podcast.  Apparently, we also have a fan in Jeremy, who is building out the world's first search engine for audio, starting with podcasts. Jeremy's founding story is quite interesting. Fresh out of college, he knew that he wanted to take the entrepreneurial route and start his own company, but had only inklings of an idea when he took a trip out West to move to the epicenter of tech innovation, San Francisco.

Anu Bhardwaj is a serial entrepreneur, blockchain influencer, speaker, and founder of various organizations including Women Investing Women Digital, and Qrypto Queens. We were excited to meet up with Anu while at the amazing StartEngine Summit in Santa Monica, which is a favorite blockchain gathering of ours. She joined us to talk about her passion for blockchain technology and how she came to focus on empowering women to start investing in cryptocurrency. Anu's ingenuity and determination paved her path to an extensive, global education with scholarships and grants to live, work and travel abroad, and pursue her master's degree in communication, culture and technology, an M.B.A at the Stockholm School of Economics and yet another Fulbright scholarship in India. Jeremy Gardener is a serial entrepreneur and investor who work and invests primarily in the blockchain cryptocurrency space. Always outside of the box in college, Jeremy created his own major with designs on becoming a political operative. The best-laid plans however rarely survive first contact. Gardner had his moment when the Mt. Gox story broke after he'd started an organization called the Blockchain Education Network. The network was ready when college students flooded into the marketplace looking to learn more about how blockchain was changing the world.   

During our recent visit to Starfish Mission, we spoke to some of the most impressive and innovative blockchain startups coming to market today. One of those was Lumeos.IO whose founder and CEO Ali Ayash gave us the scoop on how the company plans to use its blockchain technology to allow individuals to protect and monetize their own data and earn Lumeos tokens in the process. This conversation was another enlightening view into the future and  infinite possibilities blockchain technology offers. We spent some quality time recently at Starfish Mission, and got to speak to co-founder Matt Quinn and core team member Jon Connors about their work. Starfish originally opened as a coworking space to serve the blockchain community, but it has quickly evolved into an innovation hub for blockchain projects of all kinds. This was one of the more colorful conversations we've had with the juxtaposition of Jon Connors, a proud and self-proclaimed Anarchist (he even has a tattoo!) with the more diplomatic and soft-spoken Matt Quinn. Starfish's other co-founder Alicia could not join us, but we look forward to bringing her on at a future date.

Paul Hainsworth, CEO of Open Garden joined us on this episode of Popping the Bubbl to talk about his vision to completely change the game in communications by disrupting traditional mobile networks and introduce a new way to connect to the internet using blockchain technology.   Paul's story is quite fascinating. He worked in the mobile communications world for approximately fifteen years where he honed his product management skills at different traditional mobile operators such as Blackberry and Sprint. During his time at Blackberry, he became unsatisfied with the manner traditional operators conducted business, which sparked a desire to try something different, something that would alter the communications business and completely disrupt the established centralized approach.

Anyone who has been following this podcast knows that Pete and I are fascinated by all things Blockchain, so it was a wonderful treat to chat with Chelsea Rustrum, Founder of Blockchain for Good and Blox 7 and David Sneider, CEO of Deconet on this very topic. Together, they are moving the needle when it comes to evangelizing blockchain technology and paving the way for a more sovereign entrepreneurial system.   We know Chelsea from her work and advocacy with Blockchain for Good, where she has created a community that values the important societal changes blockchain technology can actualize. She met David who is also an entrepreneur, friend, and client at a blockchain event where they started discussing the topic of collaborative ownership and distributed value. Chelsea was immediately swept up by the idea and they decided to come together and collaborate on this project.

Pete and I spent a day at The Vault SF interviewing some of the most promising up and coming startups of Silicon Valley. John Singleton, COO and cofounder of Watchful.io is a charismatic guy that comes across as fearless and fun. He has the entrepreneurial spirit through and through and shared his non linear path from studying biotech at the University of Texas, to founding a Fin-tech startup to moving to India and suffering the blows of startup failure.

If there is one word to describe Maria it would be courageous. After losing her job in Brazil, Maria on a whim decided to move to California to pursue new challenges and start fresh. Yet, as soon as she landed in California she met with tremendous adversity and almost became homeless. Life took a turn for the better when she got accepted into Singularity University exactly a year ago to participate in the Global Solutions program with a focus on climate change. She credits her approval to participate in this program to Paul Hawken, author and environmentalist who had just published his book called Draw Down.

Brian Solis - The incredibly prolific, talented and sought after futurist and author Brian Solis joined us for a surprising and thought provoking conversation. Brian is a three time author and speaks around the world on topics such as digital transformation, the future of work, and innovation. Innovation and disruption isn't only true for companies, as individuals we also have to constantly reinvent ourselves, like Madonna… and like Madonna, Brian is entering a new phase, his Like a Virgin phase.
