Sometimes small things can mean the most. So was the case with this week's Red Sox instigated "short" show. Interviewed this week is Peter Geiger, editor of the Farmer's Almanac (the one with the bright orange cover). Just skimmed the surface of this year's edition. The Farmer's Almanac, for those that don't know, is a yearly periodical chock full of useful and musing information. Well it appears Fall is here! Just in time for this Fall Equinox broadcast. Garlic is the word today. Now is the time to plant it. What type should you be planting? Where can you pick it up? A listener sent in a 15-year-old seed! We'll have to wait and see what happens. The staff critiques Len's homemade ketchup and chili sauce.  New to the show, recognizing your backyard birds by their songs. Perfect for the medium of radio, since the pictures don't broadcast that well. First birds up this week, the Common American Crow and the Fish Crow. Tomatoes and Black Rot and Borers, oh my!  The time has come for you to begin overseeding your lawn. The 'Mint Julep' tomatoes sent in by a listener make a fantastic addition to a fresh summer salsa. Lusty flavor. Crunchy texture. Green with an orange blush stripe. It is a variety planned for my 2019 garden.  Plus talking the latest environmental news to hit Connecticut, trees of all varieties are dying and stressed due to strong summer and winter storms over the past several years. Then discussing black rot of grapes, plus much more.
