Marine Kyle Carpenter, was injured in Afghanistan after throwing himself on a grenade, is the youngest living recipient of the Medal of Honor. Kyle joins JJ and JoAnne Purtan to talk about his new memoir, You Are Worth It. His story is nothing short of inspirational.  Kyle talks about what he went through leading up to the "incident" and what his recovery was both physically and emotionally. He truly is an American hero. One story he shares is what he calls the lowest point in his life. While struggling to eat a bowl of cereal, he resolved that he would stop feeling sorry for himself and he pushed through and is now inspiring others to do the same.

Emma Flaishans will be going into her senior year at Riverview High School and she decided she was going to stand out from all of her fellow students when it came to Senior Pics. Emma and her family have been season ticket holders for four seasons.  Their whole basement is the Lions Den. Covered in memorabilia and autographed jerseys, Emma took he love for the Honolulu Blue and silver to the next level when she decided to put a sign together encouraging the team and coaches to show up for her senior pictures at Ford Field. Sam Martin and Romeo Okwara came through the tunnel to surprise her! Well done Emma!

Local Teachers That Influenced People's Lives 

Sleep.... It a necessity. Unless your name is JoAnne Purtan. Then it's a struggle. Like many people out there, JoAnne sometimes has a difficult time falling asleep. There is actually a survey we talk about that says some people would take a pay cut at their job in order to get a consistent good night sleep. Ken Daniel, the TV voice of the Detroit Red Wings, is in studio with Joanne to talk about the upcoming Roast of Mickey Redmond to benefit the Jamie Daniels Foundation. A foundation that is named after his son who died of an opioid overdose. The foundation provides education, resources, guidance, and support to people battling drug addiction so that lives can be saved and healing can be created within families.

Stephen & JoAnne are back with another episode of Second Cup! This week we talk with 3rd generation dairy farmer Greg McGuire from Guernsey Farms Dairy about The MI State fair happening at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi! We also talk with Danny Wilde from The Rembrandts in honor of the 25th anniversary of Friends! The Rembrandts, who perform the theme song from the show, get ready with new music from an upcoming album and they also are ready to perform their iconic song at certain Central Perk pop up!

JoAnne's daughter Lauren is getting ready to leave for college and mom is getting emotional. JoAnne talks with us about how's she feeling as she takes her daughter to college up in East Lansing at Michigan State.  We talk with Chef Trenton Chamberlain about his new farm to pizza oven restaurant called The Bricks in Grosse Pointe Park. It's a very cool concept. He works with a farm in Metamora and he gets everything from grains to veggies to make his pizza and pasta! Stephen updates us on Scarlet's Playground and how they are almost done with this amazing project. We talk with Frank who owns Ideal Contracting, who donated pretty much the entire construction part of the project. He's a truly awesome person.

Detroit Tigers Legend Kirk Gibson is our guest on Stephen & JoAnne's Second Cup this week. Kirk shares a story of why the iconic home run he hit to secure the win for the 1984 World Series was sweeter than any other he hit in his career.

What was the best sitcom of the 90's? Stephen & JoAnne will tell you their favorites. Also, Stephen updates us on the progress of Scarlet's Playground in Commerce. Detroit Tigers Legend Kirk Gibson joins us ta talk about the upcoming Everybody vs. Parkinson's Gala in October to benefit The Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson's. 

Stephen made his Broadway debut!! No... Not THE Broadway but Broadway Street in Nashville. The site where so many amazing artists made their starts before making it big in music. Stephen performed a 30 minute set of songs he has written, including his future hit song, Rednekid!  One festival Stephen dreams to play one day in Arts, Beats & Eats in Royal Oak! The annual event is back on Labor Day weekend and the organizer of the event, Jon Witz, joins us to talk about the amazing lineup of music. The wide range of foods and the beautiful art from across the country. Former Detroit Tigers player Brandon Inge also stops by to talk about an amazing charity event he has coming up with the Chad Tough Foundation.
