Despair and anxiety are rife in our communities. In the midst of this, where does our hope come from and how can we grasp hold of it?

As we look at the last of the "Fruit of the Spirit" from the 5th chapter of the letter to the Galatians, we see that instead of gratifying the desires of the sinful nature we should be investing in an eternal harvest in heaven.

What is gentleness? Is it just another word for weakness? We look at the gentleness of Jesus, and Paul's change from anger to gentleness to see that it is really "strength with self control". This leads to challenging questions about our own character and where we need to allow the Holy Spirit to bear greater fruit in this area of our lives.

What makes a good friend? History, fun, kindness? In seeing the ultimate faithfulness of God, proven by the cross and the resurrection of Jesus, we learn about the faithfulness that is the fruit of God's Spirit in us, His people.

We long for peace. We see in God's Word that when we have peace with God, that leads to peace within, peace in the world, peace in the Church, and peace in the home.

We constantly seek after experiences, we try and find purpose and pleasure in the things that our eyes and hearts desire. Yet the cry of Solomon in Ecclesiastes is that "Meaningless, meaningless, everything is meaningless". So how can we discover eternal life and endless discoveries?

We look to many things for security, but especially wealth and possessions. Jesus tells us in this parable (Luke 12v1 - 21) how to deal with "the prosperity problem", how we should act when our prosperity is greater than our need.
