  • Government boosts access to the contraceptive pill at pharmacies across NSW

    26/09/2024 Duración: 08min

Thousands of women across NSW will have easier, more affordable access to the oral contraceptive pill as a 12-month trial is made permanent by the Minns Labor Government. Since the oral contraceptive pill trial began in September 2023, more than 500 pharmacies have delivered over 2,000 consultations to women in NSW. From Saturday 28 September 2024, NSW pharmacists who have completed the required training and work in pharmacies with suitable facilities will be able to offer this service as part of their usual business. Catherine Bronger, Senior Vice President of the NSW Branch of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia says, “With our GPs stretched, community pharmacists have provided thousands of women with repeat prescriptions of the oral contraceptive pill under the NSW Government’s trial. “Making the availability of the pill at community pharmacies is the right thing for women and our communities.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  • Higher taxes will hurt housing supply warns HIA Chief Economist

    25/09/2024 Duración: 08min

Clinton is joined by Tim Reardon, HIA (Housing Industry Association) Chief Economist, who warns that higher taxes on housing will lead to less investment, fewer homes being built, and worsening affordability. He emphasises that solving the issue requires less taxation and fewer government distortions. Reports like the Henry Tax Review, as well as the RBA and Productivity Commission, highlight supply constraints as a key issue. A coordinated government effort is needed to enable the housing industry to meet demand. Blaming migration and investors misses the point—government policies are the main cause of the housing supply shortage.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  • Mortgage pain continues amid mixed inflation outlook

    24/09/2024 Duración: 08min

The Reserve Bank has kept interest rates unchanged for the seventh consecutive meeting, maintaining pressure on mortgage holders ahead of inflation data expected to show only slight moderation. After a two-day meeting, the RBA held the rate at 4.35%, marking 10 months since the last change. This follows the US Federal Reserve's recent rate cut to 4.75-5%. The RBA stated it is keeping options open, with no clear indication of future rate increases. Warren Hogan, managing director of EQ Economics & economic adviser to Judo Bank, explains to Clinton that Wednesday's inflation figures could be misleading as they are monthly, not quarterly, and they will be distorted by energy bill rebates.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

    23/09/2024 Duración: 06min

Clinton is joined by Michael Crosby, head of Public Policy AU/NZ at Airbnb, who are committed to strengthening Australian communities by collaborating with governments to ensure short-term rentals benefit locals, protect housing, and support economic activity. While underproduction of housing is the primary cause of housing challenges, Airbnb recognizes the need to do more. Initiatives include commissioning housing impact studies, sharing data via the City Portal, and donating $1 million to HOPE Housing. Airbnb urges policymakers to introduce fair regulations, such as guest tourism levies to fund affordable housing and statewide host registration schemes to increase transparency and improve short-term rental policies. *This interview is sponsored by AirbndSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
