By surrendering their national sovereignty and switching to the Euro, the once weak nations of Europe are gaining economic power as a unit. Nations all over the world have to pay attention to the economic clout of the European Union and the tentacles of its regulations.

The growth of Russian spending on its military points toward the soon fulfillment of Daniel 11 and Ezekiel 38. Putin looks to become PM to hold on to power... God has other ideas that are laid out in the prophets.

Why would anyone be in favour of a Palestinian state? Hi, this is David Billington with the Bible in the News. Today according to Israel National News some 30 mortar shells and rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel. There have been a daily stream of rockets falling on Israel from Gaza, ever since Israel pulled out from there 2 years ago. They are indiscriminately fired at Israeli towns and Kibbutzim hitting businesses, homes and schools. Before the pullout the Israeli governments mantra was that after we leave Gaza we will have a free hand to severely respond to any attack--with world support.

This is David Billington with you for this weeks Bible in the News. The song you just heard is about Elijah the prophet, the words are: Elijah the prophet, Elijah the Tishbite, Elijah the Gileadite, may he come to us soon in our days with Messiah the son David. This week we will step back and consider in a little more detail some of the scriptures concerning the preparation of Israel for the Kingdom of God. As we watch events on the world scene, looking for signs that indicate that the return of the Messiah, King of Israel is near, we often consider events in Israel. We may often wonder how a modern nation like Israel can become the righteous nation that keepeth the truth--a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. How can a nation that is ignorant of the truth as it is in Jesus and for the most part the things concerning the restoration of the kingdom to Israel, under the son of David, understand these ideas?

Originally Produced December 2006This is the Bible in the News with Paul Billington talking with you this week about Iran, Holocaust denial, and the response to it by the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Centre in Jerusalem. To many of us, denying the Nazi Holocaust of World War II is only possible if you are a crank--a madman--and obsessed by a hatred of reality as well as of the Jews. It is hard to understand the mind of someone who would blind themselves to all the accumulated evidence that there is. Yet that is what Iran has engaged in. As we will know, President Ahmadinejad of Iran not only denies the fact that six million Jews perished in the Nazi Holocaust, but he wants to repeat the terrible crime by (in his words) wiping Israel off the map. Israel, incidentally, has about 6 million Jews today--so he really does intend to match the exploits of Adolf Hitler!

As the new Jewish year comes in the Middle East it is a very turbulent situation and the future looks very bleak--especially without the Bible. For this weeks Bible in the News we want to assess Israel's situation in the Middle East and try and see where things are headed with Bible in hand.

"Never Again" has become a famous Jewish motto in regards to the Holocaust and we may wonder, could the Holocaust happen again? Jeremiah the prophet through the spirit wrote that: "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" To this agree the words of the Lord Jesus Christ: in Matthew 15:18,19 "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies..." The Apostle Paul also spoke of the corruptness of mans natural carnal mind in Romans 8:6-8: "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God." Yet most

Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News. This is Paul Billington presenting this weeks comment from a somewhat different angle as we take a look at the news in the Bible. Yes, the Bible is always in the news, as our comments week-by-week demonstrate on a regular basis. But that is because (putting it the other way round), the news is in the Bible. This of course is the meaning of that word "Gospel." In old English it means "Glad Tidings," or in up-to-date talk, "Good News." This is the news that the Bible tells us about--This is the central message of the Book.

The song we just heard: "Am Yisrael Chai" - the people of Israel live, and "Od Avinu Chai" -Still our Father lives, is a famous song written by the Singing Rabbi, Shlomo Carlebach in the sixties on behalf of Soviet Jewry who was trapped in the former communist empire. The song became a kind-of anthem for the Jews of the Soviet. It was about 17 years ago that the Soviet Union collapsed and the door was opened for Jews to return to their ancient homeland. In total over a million Jews returned from the former Soviet Union to the land of Israel.

I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah, and, although it be that he will tarry, with all this I will wait for him, in every day that he will come. This is article 12 of the 13 articles of the Jewish faith--central to Judaism and something I also personally believe with perfect faith. This is David Billington with this weeks Bible in the News.

This is the Bible in the News brought to you this week by Paul Billington. Not too many people will connect the two news stories this week that tell us what Israel is planning and doing in the West Bank, and Russia's claim to the vast energy reserves thought to be beneath the North Pole. The connection between these two events can only be appreciated through Bible prophecy, and through Ezekiel's prophecies in particular.

This is the Bible in the News with Paul Billington. The prophets foretold it. Bible expositors over many centuries expected it. Today we see it as a reality in the modern world. The restoration of the Jewish nation is a fact that no one can deny; Israel is in the news and consequently the Bible is in the news, even if Israel itself doesn't seem to know it!

This is the Bible in the News, and this is Paul Billington speaking about it. In Israel today, 600 French Jews arrived as new immigrants to the country. They are mainly religious Zionists who see the Hand of God at work in the restoration of Israel. At the same time the Olmert Government is hosting representatives of Arab Governments with the purpose of talking about giving away land in exchange for peace. In short, this means pulling out of the West Bank and handing it over to Palestinians, just as was done with the Gaza Strip--and we all know how that ended up. Hamas is now the ruling terror in that land!

This is The Bible in the News--and this is Paul Billington commenting on it--Thursday, July 19, 2007. Once again we have seen a week packed with events which demonstrate to us that the Hand of God is at work among the nations bringing about His great purpose in the earth. The God of Israel, who caused the Bible to be written, giving us His revelation, will bring events in this world to such a crisis, that the nations will be brought to realize the Truth of Scripture. In Ezekiel 38:23, after describing this great crisis, God says: "Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD."

This is another edition of the Bible in the News, and this is Paul Billington back with you after a few weeks absence. Well, the Battle for Bible Truth seems to have gained another small piece of evidence this week as a tiny Babylonian tablet has been deciphered at the British Museum in London, England. According to news reports the tablet is 2,500 years old and makes mention of a little known character by the name of Nebo-Sarsekim (or "Sarsechim" in the King James Version). He was a prince, or chief officer, of the king of Babylon--that is, of Nebuchadnezzar, and was involved in the destruction of Jerusalem in BC 588-89. The Biblical reference to this individual is found in Jeremiah 39:3.

Israel's religious leaders turn to the God of Israel in prayer echoing the words of Daniel and Nehemiah as they call for the God of their fathers in intervene in the nation's life and send the redemption.

The division between Hamas and Fatah reminds us of the times in the Old Testament when God turned "every man’s sword against his brother". While the pot is boiling in the Middle East, Tony Blair has been appointed as envoy for Middle East peace, amidst reports of his immanent conversion to Catholicism.

News reports inform us that Syria is preparing for war with Israel in the summer. Who will Israel lean upon should such a conflict errupt? Will God preserve Olmert as he did Israel's leaders of old?
