Peter writes, “As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” Over the past four weeks we have been taking a journey through the Book of Malachi. We have learned that the people of God felt abandoned. They felt like God had forgotten about them and wondered if his presence would ever return to the temple. Peter lived in such a time that God’s presence did return to his temple. It was a different temple however, its foundation was none other than Jesus Christ. The stones are precious and one of a kind. They are each and every one of the people of God from every tribe, tongue and nation. They include you and me. This temple is not found in Jerusalem, Rome, or Houston.
