Most of us grew up learning about the man who was swallowed by a whale and lived in its belly for three days. In the illustrations of the story, the whale takes front and center, capturing the imaginations of its audience through-out history. Debates have echoed through the ages, is this a historical event or a "whale" of a tall tale? In this new three-week series, Dan dives deeper than the imagery and debates to unearth the true depth behind this captivating story of social justice, unconditional love, and the Heavenly Father's relentless pursuit of His children.

In this latest episode of A Deeper Well, we are discussing the first sermon in a three-part series called, Discipleshift. When Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James, and John in Matthew 4:17-22 to follow Him and become fishers of men. What does it mean to follow Jesus? How do we go from being observers of Jesus to participants?

This episode we answer these questions: 1. When a Christian dies, does his/her soul go to heaven immediately, as I have been led to believe my entire life, or when we die are we in a holding pattern until Jesus returns? And if we are in a holding pattern, are we conscious? What about those bodies that have been cremated? I want to believe that those who have gone before me are in Paradise with Jesus. But, I have heard references in OCC sermons that that is not the case. Where was Lazarus during the 4 days? 2. What are the purposes of the sacraments? Why does Scripture command these practices and give such a serious tone about applying them in a worthy manner? 3. Once you have been baptized and accepted Christ as your Savior, even if you convert to another religion, do you lose your salvation?
