Verses 15 - 23 in the first chapter of Colossians is an extremely rich section of scripture, but we will be taking a closer look at verse 15, where Paul says Jesus is the image of the invisible God. How does this relate to this passage when we talk about being image-bearers of a Holy God? Do we as a culture like to ignore these types of passages and bring Jesus down to our level? George Barna says, "evangelism that starts at the nonbeliever's point of felt need and ties the gospel into that area of need has the greatest capacity for capturing the mind and heart of the non-christian." It is our calling as disciples of Christ to be on mission to spread the Gospel. This happens through foreign and local missions but also our ordinary daily lives.
