Well this was a fun episode. Here's the story. We set up with Arrah and the Ferns in the studio to have a cool stripped down in-studio peformance and got 3 great songs. Then the computer crashed. Then it crashed again. After loosing all the performances and most of the interview, we were 2 hours and a few beers in. So we went old school and recorded the interview on my iPhone and pulled down songs from their EP. It is still a great interview and you will love the songs. So for the first time, I totally forgot I had a troupe of comedy yahoos coming over for a podcast. After I was a good 2 martinis in, I had message on facebook that stated simply "I think we are here." Holy shit! Well, it worked out just fine and I am pleased to have had 3/4 of the OK Party Comedy troupe in the studio for some beers, laughs, and random banter. Let's just say I had a lot of editing to do, mainly just because I tend to ramble on after a couple of martinis, and boy do I think I'm funny... Enjoy. In this episode, we are joined by South of Lincoln AKA Max Holmquist. We talk about his experience as a singer/songwriter hailing from a small town in Nebraska, and get a couple of great in studio performances. The cicadas even chime in... South of Lincoln is the stage name for Maxwell Beardsley H. and his one man folk show. The calm, boring life of a small Midwestern town drove him to pick up a guitar at the age of 15. Four years later, South of Lincoln started in 2006 as Max Holmquist’s solo project. Starting with a post-punk/emo sound in the vein as Dashboard Confessionals, etc. somewhere along the line his style shifted with his musical tastes. With the introduction of Alt/Folk from people like Damien Jurado, Neko Case, M. Ward, Andrew Bird, Rocky Votolato, etc., South of Lincoln made the shift towards Folksy storytelling. This episode welcomes Omaha band Skypiper once again into the studio who are currently promoting their new record. The talk about the recording of the record and perform live. Skypiper has been practically living in the studio for the past 8 months pounding away on their excitable sophomore full length album- appropriately titled, "SKYPIPER". They are rock band from Omaha whose music might kiss you on the cheek- then punch you in the mouth with tunes ranging from simple folk, love-songs, to heavily brooding anthems; all showcasing vocal harmonies and unique instrumentation. Tim Wildsmith and Nicholas Petersen AKA The Foresters join me in the studio to talk about their new album, upcoming CD release show and share some tunes.
