    09/03/2021 Duración: 44min

If you’re anything like me, there are days that pass by and you can’t account for each hour of your day. Maybe you’re spending more time than planned watching TV or scrolling social media. You haven’t been able to identify the gaps in your schedule, thus you don’t know how to make time for your priorities. You don’t know what causes distractions, so you have no real, consistent plan for your time. Time is relative and it’s different for every one of us. You and I both have different demands on our time, thus our 24 hours will not look the same. However, we can all benefit from determining our real priorities and creating time for what matters most to us. Join me in this episode as I help you figure out what your real priorities are, how to create more time in your day, and how you can be in charge of your own schedule, so that you can focus on your priorities and plans. • Episode 58: How to Navigate Hearing No at Work

    24/02/2021 Duración: 30min

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve coached women through the fear of hearing, “No.” So many of us are afraid of feeling rejected and we take the “No” personally. We don’t try new things, we don’t ask for what we deserve, and we don’t give ourselves a chance to pursue our dreams because we fear potential rejection. Rejection decreases your ability to keep pushing forward. It increases anger, anxiety, depression, jealousy, and sadness. It drives imposter syndrome and lack of self-confidence. It sabotages your future success. Join me in this episode as I unpack the fear of hearing, “No,” the underlying fear being rejected, and how you can push past that fear. • Episode 55: How to DEMAND the kind of feedback that will take you to the next level

    20/05/2020 Duración: 37min

One thing I’ve learned over my 15 years in Corporate America is that feedback can be a key differentiator between those who succeed and and those who don’t. Especially for those of us who are looking to climb the ladder, take on leadership positions, and/or secure higher paying opportunities, understanding what we should stop, start, and continue doing is a critical part of our journey. All feedback is NOT created equal though and research tells us that Black women are less likely to receive the kind of meaningful feedback we need in order to improve our skills so we can get to the next level. Join me in this episode as I dive deep into how important good feedback is, and how you can take control of the conversation so you can demand the kind of feedback that will help you take your career to the next level. Have you ever had that nagging thought in the back of your mind that you’re meant to be doing so much more in your career than you currently are? Whether your next level involves finally doing the work that aligns with your God-given purpose, or going after the title and pay you know you deserve, or stepping out on faith so you can start your business, it’s time for you to enter your season of greatness. • Episode 53: How to skyrocket your career growth through community

    06/05/2019 Duración: 23min

In the final episode of this 3 part series breaking down the 3 things you’re underestimating in your career that are keeping you from reaching the level of success you crave, I’m talking about community - which is the last foundational piece of building a successful career. So many of the women that I talk to throw networking and community to the side, thinking they can ride the elevator of success to the top by themselves. But truthfully, community means SO much more than team work. And it’s not just about networking, either. If you’re not leveraging community in your career and fostering relationships with people, you’re doing yourself a serious disservice - and I’m here to tell you how to start utilizing this key strategy for maximum success. Listen in as I dig into the benefits of building your own personal career community, why networking really is the key to your net worth, and how community is the critical missing piece in your career success strategy. • Episode 52: How to Stop Letting Fear Cripple Your Career Goals

    22/04/2019 Duración: 22min

In part 1 of this series, episode 51, I talked all about confidence - which I believe is the #1 thing blocking your career glow-up. I broke down how detrimental lack of confidence is and why it’s the one critical skill for crafting a successful career. Today I’m unmasking the second biggest culprit when it comes to career standstills - fear. In all of the conversations I have with women, there’s a lot of fears that come up when it comes to why they’re not progressing in their careers. They’re afraid to ask for a raise, afraid to apply for that job, afraid to actually move in the direction they need to go in. There are so many women out there swimming around in stuck, fully aware of the next step they should take but unable to push past the fear to step into the careers they’ve always wanted. Listen in as I break down how doubt is paralyzing your career and what you can do to finally cut the cord on fear. • Episode 51: The ONE major thing blocking you from achieving major success in your career

    29/03/2019 Duración: 26min

Since launching my free Career Breakthrough Coaching Sessions about a month and a half ago, I’ve had the privilege of speaking with dozens of women about their career journeys and goals. It’s been such an eye opening experience - both for me and for the women I’ve spoken with. What I’ve noticed is that although the women I’m speaking with have different goals and are at different places in their career, there are common blockers that run through each of their stories and that these blockers are responsible for keeping each of them “stuck”. Of all the blockers I’ve uncovered, there have been 3 major ones that are not only common, but are often so ingrained, the women I speak with don’t even realize how these things are negatively impacting their career success. I’m tackling the biggest and most crucial blocker I’ve come across - lack of confidence - and breaking down how to immediately increase your self-confidence so you can level up in your career. • Episode 50: How to Eliminate Impostor Syndrome as a Woman of Color

    15/02/2019 Duración: 38min

I wrote a post on the Your Career Girl Facebook page last year that started off with the words: I don’t believe in Impostor Syndrome. And as you can imagine, it was quite controversial. Impostor Syndrome is defined as the persistent inability to believe that one’s success is deserved or was legitimately achieved as a result of one’s own efforts or skills. And while I believe that there are very real emotional and professional implications of being affected by Impostor Syndrome, I don’t believe the premise of the argument. Impostor Syndrome isn’t some thing that women of color have created on their own - its origins stem from some very real implications of racism. Also, Impostor Syndrome isn’t something that women of color are destined to deal with for the rest of our lives - it is very possible to push through. Listen in as I break down my definition of Impostor Syndrome, explain the different types and share my 4 step process on eliminating it once and for all. As always, if you’re a fan of the Deeper T

  • Episode 49: How to Process the Trauma of Getting Let Go from Your Job

    08/02/2019 Duración: 33min

I was chatting with one of my career coaching clients the other day about her professional journey, and our conversation veered onto the topic of when she was fired two years ago from her job and how much emotional baggage she still carried from that experience. Even though she’s since found another role that she enjoys. Even though the reason for her being fired wasn’t because she was incompetent or not good at her job, she still carries the scars. Our conversation was both inspiring and triggering for me. It got me thinking about my own lay off back in 2011 and how rattled I was by it and how it still shapes the way I view and interact with organizations all these years later. Listen is as I dig into the implications of being involuntarily let go from your company and what you can do to process this professional trauma. • Episode 45: How to Honor Your Pace and STOP "Should-ing" All Over Yourself

    12/12/2018 Duración: 28min

This episode is on a topic that’s very near and dear to my heart. I’m diving into how to “honor your pace” or simply put: How to stop obsessing over self-imposed timelines when it comes to your career and life. There’s a post on my Instagram account about my struggle with honoring my pace that really resonates with the people that read it. It seems like more than just a few people can relate to feeling like they need to accomplish this or that by the time they’re X years old. As a career coach, I speak to women from various walks of life in different spaces in their career and no matter how different each of their career stories are, the one constant is the fact that they all feel they aren’t progressing through their career as quickly as they feel they “should”. In this episode, I’m going to break down the pitfalls of living in your “shoulds” and give you practical ways you can work toward honoring the pace things are unfolding in your own life. P.S. • Episode 44: How to Know When It's Time to Leave a Workspace You've Outgrown

    05/12/2018 Duración: 40min

As a HR leader and career strategist, I’ve spoken to thousands of women over the past decade at various stages in their career. While each woman’s experience is unique, I’ve been able to categorize the challenges women face in their professional journeys into a few main themes. One theme that comes up a lot in my work is overcoming the challenge of leaving a job/career/company that no longer serves you. In fact, of the 100 women who’ve applied to have a free career exploration call with me since February of this year, an overwhelming majority of applicants list some variation of this as a main career challenge they’re facing: “Exiting a work space I’ve outgrown”. With all the challenges women - especially Black women - face in their careers, it’s no surprise they’re having trouble making the leap to bigger and better opportunities at work. In this episode, I’m discussing 1) how to know you’ve outgrown your current work space, 2) why it’s hard for you to walk away from that space even when you know you shou
